“What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs.” – Matthew 10:27 [NIV]
My daughter has two hermit crabs, each with totally different personalities. As I was reading my Bible the other day, I heard a strange noise and looked over at the hermit crab area. The one hermit crab as usual was nowhere to be found. He spends most of his time hiding in the sand and if we did not know that we placed him in there, we wouldn’t know he existed most of the time. Then there’s the other hermit crab, the one who constantly is making noise from the rooftop. He climbs up to the top of his cocoa hut and he is heard.
This gets me thinking about Matthew 10:27, where we see this picture of a person who is sharing the message in the day, even shouting from rooftops. I know some people who are not afraid to speak of Jesus, to share their faith. They get up on the rooftop and their voice is heard. But I also know others who are like the hiding hermit crab. They don’t voice their faith and if an opportunity presents itself, they find a way to hide in the sand.
Today I encourage you to get out on the rooftop. Jesus isn’t asking us to literally stand on a rooftop or to be on a stage before a large crowd of people. Start by sharing with one person—go from there. Don’t hide in the sand today. We need you.
