My Strength
- WE ARE CURSED WHEN WE RELY ON HUMAN STRENGTH…
Jeremiah 17:5– This is what the LORD says: “Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strengthand turn their hearts away from the LORD. [NLT]
- WE ARE BLESSED WHEN OUR STRENGTH IS IN CHRIST
Psalm 84:5– Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. [NIV]
“The joy of the Lord is my strength”– Rend Collective
The joy of the Lord is my strength
The joy of the Lord is my strength
In the darkness I’ll dance
In the shadows I’ll sing
“The joy of the Lord is my strength”
Then I remembered Nehemiah…
Nehemiah 8:10– Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”[NIV]
When I researched the words…
Strength, Strengthen, Strengthened, etc. – 207 OT /25 NT
I considered what was in the New Testament…
It’s not about our strength… boast in weakness…
2 Corinthians 12: 9– But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.[NIV]
We are to love God with all our strength…
Mark 12:30 / Luke 10:27– And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heartand with all your souland with all your mindand with all your strength.
We can do everything through Christ Who gives strength…
Philippians 4:13– For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.[NLT]
He is our strength…
Psalm 28:7– The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.[NIV]
Psalm 59:9– O my Strength, I will watch for you, for you, O God, are my fortress.[ESV]
Psalm 73:26– My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.[NLT]
Psalm 68:35– Awesome is God from his sanctuary; the God of Israel—he is the one who gives power and strength to his people. Blessed be God![ESV]
Zechariah 10:12– I will make them strong in the LORD, and they shall walk in his name,” declares the LORD. [ESV]
[1 Samuel 30]
“The joy of the Lord is my strength”
Knowing (trusting knowing) + abiding in Him = hope + salvation = joy of the Lord = strength
Now what…
- REPENT – Turn from sin – Psalm 31:10– For my life is spent with sorrow, and my years with sighing; my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away. [ESV] —— ADMIT you can’t do it on own
- PRAY– Call on the Lord – Psalm 138:3– On the day I called, you answered me; my strength of soul you increased.[ESV], Psalm 105:4– Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually! [ESV] — Pray for the help you need
- TRUST– Trust the Lord – Psalm 119:28– My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to your word![ESV], 2 Timothy 2:1– You then, my child, be strengthened by the gracethat is in Christ Jesus. [ESV]
- WAIT– Wait on the Lord – Psalm 27:14– Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD![ESV] Isaiah 40:28-31– Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power.Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.[ESV]
- ACT– Act in faith trusting on His promise- Isaiah 30:15– This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.[NIV]
- PRAISE– To Him be all the honor, glory and praise – Psalm 50:15– and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.[ESV]
As we close, let us remember the promise…
1 Peter 5:10– And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.[ESV]
RESTORE – CONFIRM – STRENGTHEN – ESTABLISH
And you too will claim these words…
2 Timothy 4:7– I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. [ESV]
