Praying Through the Waiting Outline

21 Pilots – “Car Radio”

Sometimes quiet is violent

I find it hard to hide it

My pride is no longer inside

It’s on my sleeve

My skin will scream reminding me of

Who I killed inside my dream

I hate this car that I’m driving

There’s no hiding for me

I’m forced to deal with what I feel

There is no distraction to mask what is real

I could pull the steering wheel

I have these thoughts, so often I ought

To replace that slot with what I once bought

‘Cause somebody stole my car radio

And now I just sit in silence

  • Silence can be frustrating, even painful.
  • Waiting can be exhausting.
  • We have all birthed some Ishmael’s at some time or another because the wait was too much.
  • We give up or give in
  • We try to make things happen
  • We take things into our own hands

Let us be a people who Pray Through the Waiting

CHECK ALIGNMENT

  • Are you abiding in Christ?
  • Have you wandered?
  • Is there an action you can take or a need for repentance to move forward?

Habakkuk 2:1-3 English Standard Version (ESV)

I will take my stand at my watchpost

    and station myself on the tower,

and look out to see what he will say to me,

    and what I will answer concerning my complaint.

And the Lord answered me:

“Write the vision;

    make it plain on tablets,

    so he may run who reads it.

3 For still the vision awaits its appointed time;

    it hastens to the end—it will not lie.

If it seems slow, wait for it;

    it will surely come; it will not delay.

PRAY PERSISTENTLY

Micah 7:7 English Standard Version (ESV)

But as for me, I will look to the Lord;

    I will wait for the God of my salvation;

    my God will hear me.

Psalm 25:4-5 English Standard Version (ESV)

Make me to know your ways, O Lord;

    teach me your paths.

Lead me in your truth and teach me,

    for you are the God of my salvation;

    for you I wait all the day long.

PRACTICE SILENCE & SOLITUDE

Psalm 37:7 English Standard Version (ESV)

7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;

    fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way,

    over the man who carries out evil devices!

Psalm 62:5 English Standard Version (ESV)

5 For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,

    for my hope is from him.

ENJOY THE GOODNESS OF THE LORD

Lamentations 3:25 English Standard Version (ESV)

25 The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.

Psalm 27:13-14 English Standard Version (ESV)

13 I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living!

14 Wait for the Lord;be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!

Isaiah 40:31 English Standard Version (ESV)

31  but they who wait for the Lord

shall renew their strength;

they shall mount up with wings like eagles;

they shall run and not be weary;

they shall walk and not faint.
