The word peace appears over 400 x’s in the Bible
The word PEACE – Eiréné – “i-ray-nay”
“Tie together/joined/wholeness, all essential parts are joined together”
PEACE WITH GOD – “God and sinners reconciled”
Isaiah 9:6– For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His government and its peace will never end.
Colossians 1:20– For it was the Father’s good pleasure … through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross
Romans 5:1– Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.
PEACE WITH OTHERS – “Blessed are the peacemakers” (Matthew 5:9)– “the ones who work for peace”
2 Corinthians 5:18-21– And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to Himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And He gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making His appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
2 Corinthians 13:11– Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.
2 Timothy 2:22– pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace
1 Peter 3:11– turn from evil/do good; seek peace and pursue it.
PEACE OF GOD – “A Peace that surpasses understanding”
God is the Source of our Peace
Psalm 29:11– The LORD will give strength to His people; The LORD will bless His people with peace.
- Father God (Philippians 4:7)– Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
- Jesus Christ (John 14:27) – I am leaving you with a gift–peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
- Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22)– one of fruit of the Spirit
Isaiah 26:3 – You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! (Shalom peace – “completeness”)
