Today’s fortune cookie is a good one – “Look up an old friend if you’re feeling down.” We all have those days or even seasons where we are down. It is certainly a comfort to be able to spend time with old friends to connect and catch up. When you get together with an old friend, you can reminisce about past achievements and funny mishaps, and discuss current events too.
For me, a friend is a friend for life. I love catching up with old friends; however, the best of old friends is our heavenly Father. There is no better person to connect with than Him. He not only knows what you are going through, but He alone can provide peace beyond understanding and joy that overflows. If you are feeling down right now, is it because you are not spending much time with the One who is above all? We were made to be in relationship with Him. Without our relationship with Him, we cannot be fully satisfied.
Friendships require communication. It is certainly a special relationship when you can go without speaking for a few months or even years, and then reconnect like you never were apart. People come and go with seasons—some are more involved or less involved depending on the season you are working through. But this is not like the relationship we should have with God. God is a God of every season. If God is to speak into your life, to guide, to sustain, to provide, to comfort, etc., He should be someone you connect with daily. If you haven’t connected with Him lately, make the effort today. There is something special about being in His presence. The world, life and seasons, all look different through the lens of God—and basking in His presence will always make life brighter.
“O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” – Psalm 63:1 [ESV]
