For A Moment

There are moments in life when we see people getting ahead in the world despite their lack of hard work and integrity. It can result in us to becoming upset, distraught, or even jealous. At times, we may observe people who are going about things the wrong way and flourishing, and we consider following in their footsteps. Why follow the rules when others do not?  Why do the right thing, when others do the wrong thing and are rewarded? These questions we may ask.

In Psalm 92:7, we read: “It’s true the wicked flourish, but only for a moment, foolishly forgetting their destiny with death, that they will all one day be destroyed forevermore” (TPT). The Bible says that yes, the wicked may flourish — “But only for a moment.” They may get the earthly reward, the quick fix, the temporary treasures of this world. They may receive more money, have the bigger homes, seem to have everything go their way. Yet it is “only for a moment.” In the end, the temporary rewards will be forgotten by those on the receiving end because they have a “destiny with death.”

This should not cause us joy, that the wicked will be destroyed. Remember, God does not desire for anyone to go to hell (2 Peter 3:9). Instead, as we remember life is “for a moment,” we should not only aim to live like Jesus with our eyes on our eternal destiny, but we should also aim to share Jesus with others so that others may come to know Him. Our words and our actions may fall on deaf ears and closed eyes; however, we can say with pure hearts that we planted the seeds and did not hold back.

Even still, we can rejoice that God will one day make all things new, and one day there will be no wickedness on the earth. For this moment, and until the Lord calls us home, stay focused on what God has for you to do right now so you do not miss what matters most. We are each running our own race, and we will be held accountable just the same. Let your life be a testimony of the goodness and love of God. Let the example you live out point to the One who is making all things new.

  1. I strongly agree with your article…. thank you for that highlight!

This morning quiet time of mine, the Lord impressed to my heart about the “riches” are meaningless. (Ecclesiastes 5:10) and our life is so short and will pass through like a shadow… Live life with purpose and continue Christ’s mission.

    1. Thank you for your encouraging words. It is so easy for us to forget that life is but a breath. I try to focus on being fully present where I am at, and in doing so, being expectant on the Holy Spirit to guide and direct my steps so that I may honor and glorify God. The busyness of life can sadly shift our focus so there’s a constant need to examine ourselves. Have a blessed day!
