Most people do not like to go first. I remember in high school, it was occasionally a good thing to volunteer to go first so you could get a little extra grace from your teacher when it comes to grading. Usually most people would hide in fear. Uncertain territory is not fun, at least not for most people. However, God promises us that we don’t have to go first. He goes before you.
He did this long ago. In Deuteronomy 1:33, it is described: “Who went before you on the journey to seek out a place for you to camp. He went in the fire by night and in the cloud by day to guide you on the road you were to travel” (CSB). There was no need to worry about getting lost or confused. The Lord used the fire and the clouds to guide the people. There was no need to worry about being alone. Not only does the Lord go before you, He also goes with you. He will never leave or forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:8).
Today, we’ve been reminded that God goes before us so we are not going first. The truth is that God has already gone first for us. Jesus is our High Priest and He’s been tempted in every way just like us (Hebrews 4:15). He knows what we are going through. We’ve also been reminded that God will not leave or forsake us either. You are never alone.
What awesome promises to remember today and always! God is so good. How blessed we are that He goes before us! “But in the depths of my heart I truly know that You, Yahweh, have become my Shield; You take me and surround me with Yourself. Your glory covers me continually. You lift high my head when I bow low in shame. I have cried out to You, Yahweh, from Your holy presence. You send me a Father’s help. [Pause in His presence] So now I’ll lie down and sleep like a baby— then I’ll awake in safety, for You surround me with Your glory. Even though dark powers prowl around me, I won’t be afraid.” (Psalm 3:3-6 TPT). Amen!
