Continually Woven For Good

Today’s verse is one I remind myself of daily. Romans 8:28 says, “So we are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together for good, for we are His lovers who have been called to fulfill His designed purpose” (TPT). I need to remind myself of this daily because each day we face struggles, brokenness, etc., and it is too easy to sink into frustration and despair. We cannot see the big picture, the grand scheme of things. We see what only we can see. We cannot see, think, or imagine like God (Isaiah 55:8). However, we can rest in His promises. We can rest in His promise that every single detail of our lives — everything — is continually being woven together for good. We can trust that all of the trials and problems and heartache will all be for good.

This promise does not cause our pain necessarily to go away. We will suffer loss and grieve. We will undergo struggles and face frustration. We will be burdened and tired and craving rest and maybe even wishing for our own island to escape for a few hours or even days because we are overwhelmed with life. Even so, this promise can remind us of God’s goodness. This promise can remind us that there is a reason for what we are going through right now. This promise can help us recognize that our pain, our struggles — all of it — is not in vain. There is a greater purpose.

I love how the Passion Translation ends this verse. His designed purpose. How awesome is that? We have been “called to fulfill His designed purpose.” The Creator of all things, God Almighty, has a designed purpose for you and for me. He will take all the good, the bad, and the ugly of your life, and He will use it. He will build you up. He will make you whole (1 Thessalonians 5:23). He will redeem you (Ephesians 1:7). He will show you off as His masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10). He will crown you (James 1:12).

You may be facing some hardships today. I know I am. Each of us may sympathize or empathize with each other when it comes to some of these struggles. Only Jesus can understand it all (Hebrews 2:17, Hebrews 5:2, Hebrews 4:14-16). Seek Him each day. The Holy Spirit will reveal to you hidden things. He may show you where you transgressed to find yourself in the struggles. He may remind you of God’s promises over your life as you face these trials. Remember, God not only understands what you are going through, He also uses all things for His good purpose. He is a good, good Father.
