It is so easy to get into the habit of comparison with others. We go on Pinterest and suddenly we want to redecorate our homes because we have seen designs that are much better. We scroll through Instagram and suddenly we feel like we never go anywhere, our kids are the worst behaved children ever, and we lack flare, intellect, beauty, money, etc. We visit Facebook and the only thing we connect to is discontentment and misery. Sadly, we too often find that the social media outlets make us feel worse about ourselves. It is too easy to find yourself feeling of little value. Spending time online usually does not help your self-esteem or your confidence levels.
Today’s verse is 2 Corinthians 8:12, and it says: “For if the intention and desire are there, the size of the gift doesn’t matter. Your gift is fully acceptable to God according to what you have, not what you don’t have” (TPT). Now this verse is speaking about you and what you give. Earlier I mentioned the social media sites and the idea of feeling lacking. We feel this on many levels because the world is not very uplifting. You may feel of little worth and you may feel like you cannot contribute much to society, and that you have nothing that you can do to serve God. All of this is lies.
The truth is that it does not matter how much you have. It doesn’t matter what you possess. What matters is your heart. What matters is how much you are willing to give from what you do have. God does not ask you to give what you do not have. You can only do what you can, right? You can’t do what you can’t. What is awesome is that God gives you all that you need to accomplish what He has for you to do in life (Philippians 4:19). He’s promised it all to you. This world will try to tell you again and again that you are not good enough. That’s a lie. You are amazing and God has amazing things for you to do to make a mark in the world. What do you need to contribute? You only need a willing heart — it’s all about the intention and desire. Whatever you have, whether small or big, God will use it. Simply put it in His hands and watch it grow. Good things are coming. Reach out. Open your hands. Look up. Keep pressing forward.
Thank you Father for giving me all that I need to accomplish great things. Lord, You have blessed me in abundance. Lord, help me to remember that You have declared me worthy. Lord, help me to live my life with open hands. Lord, remind me that I have been blessed to be a blessing. May all that I do and all that I say bring You honor and glory. In Jesus’ Name. Amen!
