My daughter has a Russian Tortoise. I decided to attempt to grow dandelions indoors for him for the winter. The seeds were planted and we are already seeing some growth. Remember, what you plant, you reap. This is important to consider in every area of life. The words you speak have power; the tongue brings life or death (see Proverbs 18:21). The time you invest always has a return, good or bad. Everything that is put out has results — the money you spend, the actions you take, etc.
In Luke 6:38, we read: “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you” (NIV). In today’s verse, we read: “Here’s my point. A stingy sower will reap a meager harvest, but the one who sows from a generous spirit will reap an abundant harvest” (2 Corinthians 9:6 TPT).
These passages both make it clear that if you live your life with open hands, your hands will be ready to receive what God wants to give you next. This isn’t about getting rich. This is about being blessed to be a blessing. This is about giving with a generous heart as the Spirit directs. If you aren’t doing much with what God has already given you, do not be surprised when you are not entrusted with more. Also, if you are giving out of obligation, God knows your true heart. You can fake for others to see, but God always sees the motives.
As you consider sowing, remember that you can sow good seed or bad seed. Bad seed can still produce a big harvest. If you pour out a lot of negative words to your children, you will see the lack of confidence and self doubt in your children. You will see children who do not attempt to take challenges for fear of failure. You will see children that you scarred with your words. If you gossip at work, you will see the drama and slander and negative work relationships follow. If you invest all of your time on Facebook, you will find a harvest of discontentment.
Today, consider what you are sharing with the world. Are you planting good seeds? Are you living life with open hands, trusting God for an abundant harvest? Do you need to adjust the seeds you are sowing? How can you be more like the master Gardener? What does God want you to plant today?
Heavenly Father, thank You for providing us with all we need. Lord, thank You for being the best Giver. All that we have is Yours. Lord, help me to live my life with open hands. I ask that my time, my talents, and my treasure all be for Your glory. Lord, may the Spirit help guide me to plant the best seeds for an abundant harvest. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
