Promise of Rest

Read Hebrews 4:1-11. We have a promised rest — a promise to enter God’s rest. What a wonderful promise! On the seventh day, God rested from all of His works. He wasn’t tired. He didn’t need to rest. He displayed for us the beauty of this gift of rest, this rest that He offers us. We simply need to trust Him. We trust that He provides. We trust that we will have all that we need to do what He calls us to do in life. We trust that the world will not fall apart if we enter His rest.

When was the last time you experienced God’s rest? What makes it hard for you to rest? Are you able to have quiet time to pray and to read God’s Word and experience His presence? Do you feel the peace that God promises — the peace that passes our understanding?

If you do not feel rested, if you feel anxious, tired, overwhelmed, pray about what should be laid aside so that you can experience God’s rest. Pray about what you need to turn over to Him. Pray about your focus, your habits, your sleep, your quiet time. Ask for His guidance. Let Him show you the way of rest. Remember, not only does He promise us rest, but He demonstrated to us the way to experience rest.

“For the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, has said: ‘You will be delivered by returning and resting; your strength will lie in quiet confidence. But you are not willing.” – Isaiah 30:15 [CSB]
